COMMUNITY EVENTS

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these events free?

Yup! All IDLance community events are completely free. Come hang out, learn something useful, and meet other freelancers without spending any of your hard-earned dough.

Are events in-person or virtual?

Slap a comically large hat on us and call us Jamiroquai, because all events on this page are VIRTUAL! Learn more here.

Who are these events for?

These sessions are designed for freelance instructional designers and the wider IDLance community: writers, artists, developers, strategists, video whizzes, and anyone who works in the L&D universe. If you’re building things that help humans learn, you’re probably in the right place. If you're not in the right place, you can still attend. We all need friends.

Do I need to RSVP?

Unless specifically requested under one of the events listed above, you DO NOT need to RSVP to attend these events. There are simply too many forms in life, and we refuse to participate in the horrors of it all!

Are events recorded?

Some are recorded, but not all.

We want people to feel fully comfortable showing up as themselves, asking questions, or participating without their face living forever on Al Gore’s internet. We’ll always note in advance if a session will be recorded.

Can I host an event for IDLance?

Totally! We love spotlighting community members and guest experts who can help freelancers level up.

If you have a topic that would support our group—finance, workflow, creative process, tools, mental health, or anything in between—we’d love to hear from you. Just fill out the form above to pitch your idea.

What timezone do you host your events in?

All of our events are hosted in U.S. Eastern Time. We try to schedule sessions at times that work for as many freelancers as possible, and we’ll always list the exact time zone in the event details.

Are these events introvert-friendly?

Yes. Extremely.

You’re welcome to keep your camera off, keep your mic muted, and lurk quietly with your beverage of choice. That said, our events really shine when people participate by asking questions or sharing experiences. But you get to choose your comfort level.

Who hosts your events?

That would be our esteemed Director of Community Engagement, Kortney Ross! Kortney has been an active part of our community from day one! She knows a thing or two about directing since her days as a Music Educator/Director in K-12.

How do I join the IDLance Slack Community?

Once accepted, you’ll be able to meet other freelancers, ask questions, share goals, and stay in the loop on other upcoming events in our #events channel.
