Join Our Slack
Our Slack Community is where all the action goes down! Come hang out with a group of like-minded freelance professionals to chit-chat, find cool projects, blow off steam, get advice, co-work, or attend one of our exclusive events.
We post project alerts as often as we can. Heck, you may even get a job from a fellow Slacker in need of a hand.
Just look at this beautiful Polaroid of our gang hanging out together. It's not AI-generated, and it's definitely not cursed. Do NOT zoom in. Do not.
Just fill out the form, and we'll let you in ASAP—unless you're a catfish or a bot. Respect, though.

Add Your Name to The Village Directory
The Village Directory is our internal go-to for getting to know the incredible freelancers in our community! We want to know what you’re great at, what you like to work on, and how to find you when opportunities come up.
You don’t have to be in the directory to be considered for gigs, but you do have to be in our Slack community!

Explore FEAST
FEAST stands for "Freelance Empowerment and Advanced Skills Training." It's our brand-new 24-week online program for instructional designers looking to go freelance or boost their existing freelance careers.

Have Questions About This Stuff?
We don’t have a traditional “apply and join” process. Most of the freelancers we work with come from within our community. We get to know people over time, see how they think, how they show up, and what they’re great at.
The best way to work with us is to:
Be active in Slack
Add your name to the Village Directory
Attend community events, so we get to know you a lil' bit better
Apply to gigs as they come up in the #gig-alerts channel of our Slack
That’s usually how things start!
Gigs are primarily shared in our Slack community. We’ll usually post details there in the #gig-alerts channel and invite interested people to throw their hat in the ring. From there, we’ll reach out if it looks like a good fit. Occasionally, we’ll also reach out directly based on the Village Directory.
We love a good portfolio, but we can't review unsolicited ones. When we’re staffing a project, we’ll ask for specific examples that are relevant to that work. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is stay active in Slack and make sure your Village Directory entry is up to date.
Most of our events are recorded and shared afterward in the #events channel in our Slack. Some more casual or interactive sessions may not be, but we try to make as much available as possible for people who can’t attend live.
Nope. But it’s one of the main ways we get a quick sense of who you are and what you do. When we’re moving fast (which is often), it’s usually the first place we look. That said, most gigs are shared in Slack—so being in the community is the most important way to stay in the loop.
Yes! We work with people all over the place. Time zone and project needs can play a role, but we’re a pretty global group.
